On April 18, 2018 the NCAA took a positive step towards effective recruiting reform, by prohibiting contact with prospective student athletes until September 1, 2018. Unfortunately the rule has no affect on "Verbal Commitments" as these are not acknowledged or governed by the NCAA. Perhaps this would be a logical next step in the reform process? Presently the University of Florida and the like are free to hawk free publicity by verbally committing undeveloped pre-teen girls. It will be interesting to see who actually makes it to campus in 2024.
Clearly more needs to be done and the attached video provides excellent insight on how the NCAA and participating institutions can be held accountable from the outside.
